About

This blog was created because the people below meet up for group breakfasts/brunch/lunch far more often than we should for the sake of our bank accounts and the topic of creating a record like this has come up over many a cup of coffee.

Why Eggs Benedict? It's sold by virtually every café and therefore serves as a good baseline for comparison. You can probably do the same thing with Bangers and Mash as pub food.

  • I used to be one of those Caramel Latte drinkers and have since seen the light. I favour the Flat White now, and have been known to go for a double.
    • Best coffee: I'm on the search :)
  • There's one thing I enjoy when I brunch, and that's bacon. You know what I'm talking about, nothing like that perfectly cooked salty bacon covered in egg yolk... mmmm.... right that's it, time to cook up that bacon in the fridge.
    • Best Eggs Benedict: This is a hard one, but I'd have to say the best Eggs Benedict I've had so far was from the Fernielea Cafe in Coatesville, northwest of Auckland - Map - The hollandaise sauce was beautiful and didn't leave you feeling sick afterwards which happens so often.

  • When it comes to coffee I don't like to restrict myself to one particular style; just depends what I'm in the mood for.  It's often a trim latte, or long black (americano style), or a vienna if it's available.
    • Best Coffee: From Long Black Cafe in Unitec's Architecture Building
  • Less likely than the others to go with Eggs Benedict, and don't believe that breakfast necessarily has to involve bacon! (although it may).
    • Best Food: Will let you know.
I'm on the lookout for a place doing something unique for brunch.

  • Probably drinks more coffee than the others put together and very much appreciates a good double (or stronger) Flat White.

  • I'm a big fan of a strong mocha. I need at least two shots of coffee in my morning drink but I prefer chocolate over sugar.
    • Best coffee: Triple shot Mocha from Jones The Grocer in Newmarket - Map - Consistently awesome.
  • I definitely prefers my eggs served on English muffins but bread is OK in a pinch. If the cafe serves its Benedict on potato then French Toast is the go-to alternative.
    • Best Eggs Benedict: Fraser's in Mt Eden - Map - It's a bit more expensive but I think it's worth it.
